A ground floor space facing the street, A former videoclub of the late 2000’s, Initially built as a single family house in the 1920s

The new use of the initial house is a multipurpose space for

        a team of architects, designers and artists. A parallel world to their daily workplace.

                              A workshop to invent with multiple formats of using space;

               A working area for the team, a showroom for presentations and exhibitions,

                              Possibly a workshop and lab zone for carpentry and ceramic handmade prototypes. Secondary uses such as a small kitchen and a WC.

The interior space was divided in two zones; the front zone with all regular uses and the back zone hosting secondary uses and the labs.

                              For its regular use, it was necessary to define two environments; the first environment, the space where someone comes by when first entering from the street. An open area for exhibitions, presentations and events. Movable wodden tables and benches give plenty of options to its users.

The second environment, partially separated from the first one by an old structural wall is the working area with a large table and an informal relax and reading area for the team.

A unique space, two -or more- atmospheres. The revealed original mosaic floor and two different ceiling heights to define them

               The working table hangs from the old ceiling of the house,

                              Feels like a large swing. This natural wooden surface works as the background for all the daily working process; sketching, talking, eating, designing, meeting, presenting.

Hanging wooden shelves emphasize the working feeling of this area.

The relax zone is defined by a wooden frame attached in one of the two large opening of the space towards the street. It serves as a storage underneath.

                              The existing structural wall separates the front environment in two areas. It also divides the façade in two large openings. Each opening corresponds in a different use of the space inside. The façade division becomes even more prominent due to the extraction of one of the two ´eyes´ in order to form a wooden bench on the pavement.

               The rooms at the back serve as working labs, corridors and secondary uses such as kitchenette and WC. The reveal of the original floor and the minor changes on the original painting and covering of the walls determine the feeling of this space.

                              It´s a low-cost refurbishment. Plywood panels have been massively used to form shelves, surfaces, benches or to cover parts of the existing walls.  Original mosaic tiles, raw walls and metal structures, external electric pipeline and installations … and a realization that is closer to DIY than a conventional work summarize the project’s identity.
